Help With a Design Concept

Hello,

I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions for a design concept. I am attempting to design a device that cuts using the same or similar mechanisms of a pencil sharpener, only I want to make a clean cut all the way through. Is there an efficient way to leverage that twisting motion with a stronger/sharper blade to create clean cuts?

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.
 
You could start with "lathe" as a search term. Even there, there's a bit of a problem when the cut gets close to the axis of rotation and the speed of the workpiece relative to tool reduces towards zero.

The traditional solution is to apply the twisting motion to the tool instead of the workpiece, after the fashion of a milling cutter or one of those pencil sharpeners where you wind a handle instead of twisting the pencil.
 
I agree with them. It is true that as the cut gets closer to the axis of rotation, the speed of the workpiece relative to the tool decreases. The traditional solution of applying the twisting motion to the tool instead of the workpiece is a logical one and is similar to the way a milling cutter or pencil sharpener operates.
