Guys

I am checking a design for T-line pole foundation. The contractor is using Caisson pier foundation software for the design. The foundation is nothing but the pole embedded into the soil and back filled with cement gravel. We do not have the software to check the design.

Can you please help me with the design guide/philosophy for the design of the T-line foundations.

Thanks for your time
NT

In lieu of the standard transmission pole line embedment details probably available at the utility opening the pole, just use the IBC guidance for pole footing design. The IBC will be much more conservative, trust me.

For the geotechnical behavior, I used to use Brohm's method a good bit for T-line and other similiar cantilever structures. I believe the AASHTO Luminaire guide also was pertinent.

For the structural behavior of the pole, that will depend on the pole type/material.

Thanks for your input. The pile type is tubular steel pole.

Can you please specify the design principle or theory used for "DIRECT EMBEDDED POLE" for T-line structures.

Thanks

I agree with Mike, use the provisions for non-constrained embedded poles in the IBC. It's an easy calculation.
