Hi,

I am trying to set-up a large scale geological model (80 Kms x 80 Kms x 12 Kms) in Abaqus explicit.

Is there a way to set-up, through cae, a geostatic step followed by an explicit analysis for the same model ? I am using the geostatic step to make sure that gravity is at its full amplitude at the beginning of the explicit analysis.

Or do I have to manually change the input file outside of CAE ( I have no clue how to do this - any suggestions would be appreciated)

Thanks in advance
SS

I suspect it is not possible since *Geostatic employs the implicit solver (Standard).

A possibility to try would be to perform the explicit step as an import analysis, assuming you not get into one of the limitations of the Standard to Explicit import analysis.

Hi Xerf,

Could you please clarify what you mean by importing into explicit analysis ? Is it the same as 'restarting' the model in explicit after importing the job results from the geostatic state ?

Do a search in the documentation for import analysis. Indeed it somewhat similar to restart.
