I fried my 2 computer HDDs saturday. I guess the FATs were deleted. How can I get them back? Also, is there a way I can restore my datas?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

If you mean you actually fried the chips on the control boards installed on the HDD's, stop and take a deep breath. There is a big probability that the data is still readable - as long as you don't play games.

First of all, if you don't feel VERY comfortable about changing the control board of a HDD, please DO NOT attempt so. Find a professional guy to find a suitable card and replace it. Depending on the brand and model, you may be unable to find a replacement. In this case, send the HDD's to a data rescue company. This will hurt financially, so be prepared.

If you mean something else by frying, then I'm not sure what you mean, please be specific.

Good luck,
Engin

The make and type of your HDD? Does it spin at all ?
What more can you tell ?

Well, after a few hours dealing with it, it seems like only one HDD fried, since I got the other one running back. The one which fried was my slave disk. It's a Fujitsu 20Mb HDD. I don't have the references here (I'm posting from office) but I'll note them and post them later.

The drive doesn't spin at all when plugged and computer refuses to start when this drive is plugged (hard disk boot failure) either slave or master.

There appears to be a known problem with the Fujitsu drives you mention.

Just do a search on Google to find out more...

There seem to be a lot of unhappy people out there.
