HELP!!! Is it required to X-Ray after PWHT in SEC VIII and where is it found in the Code? This is on a pressure vessel. Please help me ASAP thank you

To my knowledge there is no requirement to X-Ray after PWHT if it is performed before PWHT. I know that some client specs require that it be performed both before and after PWHT but that is more restrictive than the code requirements.

The PWHT is an expensive part of the vessel fabrication. Is that part of fabrication which requires a carefull evaluation of the NDE requirements and when to perform those tests. Obviously, as fabricator you would prefer to complete all the tests before the PWHT, to prevent any repair welding which require the repeat of PWHT, at your cost. However, many defects became apparent only after the PWHT, which prompted the User's to request the major NDEs to be performed after PWHT.
The Code is imartial on this, therefore the User's specification requesting NDE after the PWHT, quite often prevails.

See ASME Code interpretation 98-09R
RT after PWHT is not mandatory , except when specified in UHA-33(b) and (c).
Pls note that a lot of client spec's however, do specify that all NDE shall be done after PWHT.
