Help in designing Brackets!

Hi guys, I dont know if you can answer my question or show me a website that can.. I am designing a bracket to withstand a load of 2400kg. The bracket will allow the load to rotate from a upright position to a flat position, much like a letter box but upside-down..What I want to know is where can I find help for working out thickness of my hinge pin, size of bracket and how many bolts I will require and what size.. i have made some calculations based on Stress = Load/Area and had some success, but I know I should be taking a lot more into account (bearing stress etc.) Its more of a can you push me in the right direction question?! Thanks again!
 
For shear, bearing, bending, etc, use AISC ASD steel construction manual.
 
upright position to flat position.. it sounds like you need to pay attention to shear, moment, and torsion all together. Design it carefully.
