Hello fellow engineers,
I need a little bit of help identifying the appropriate type of material that should be used in a rubber (-esque) part.
The part will be used in a replica firearm that fires 6mm pellets, also known as an airsoft gun. Anywho the part is called a hop up bucking, and it's purpose is this: When a pellet is loaded into the chamber, it's pressed up against a rubber nub. When fired, the pellet passes under the nub, and back-spin is created. This back-spin dramatically increases the range of the pellet through an effect called the Magnus Affect.
So.
Here are the general requirements of the material that this hop up rubber needs to have.
1. It needs to be high friction, as it's purpose is to 'grip' the pellet.
2. It needs to be soft, as the pellet needs to be able to pass under it. But it can't be so soft that it's prone to immediate wear, or malformations after repeated firings. It needs to hold it's original shape.
3. As states in requirement 3, it needs to be durable, so it doesn't wear too quickly. I understand that every part eventually will wear, and will need to be replaced, but I don't want to have to replace it every 1K shots, you know?
4. Finally, I need to be able to cast it into a mold.
I bet this information is already out there, so I wouldn't mind if someone posted a link to a database of sorts where I could find the answer to my question; but I wouldn't mind a simple flat out answer either
