Hi,

Can anyone give me a down and dirty formula for blending/alloying polycarbonate with polyester (PET or PBT)? Is there a compatibilizer that is recommended?

Thanks.

yes there is a compatilizer required. GE has a patent on the use of it. Why not buy from them?

Instead of buying from GE, I want to know if I can compatbilize my own PC/Polyester.

Does anyone know where I can buy such a compatibilizer?

Polyester and polycarbonate will react with each other in the extruder (transesterification) thus forming block copolymers of polyester and polycarbonate that compatibilise the blend. However, you may need a long residence time in the extruder or more than one pass to get enough reaction. In a former job we added some catalyst to the polyester / polycarbonate blend to speed things up. Normal transesterification catalysts like antimony trioxide work as do many others.

There is not any memory with less satisfaction than the memory of some temptation we resisted.
