Hello friends,
Anybody with Banbury mixer cleaning out experience? We need to clean out the mixer for white/color compounding after black compounding. Could you please advise us?
Thank you in advance!
Violet
This is very difficult and very time consuming! It would be better to have a dedicated mixing mill for white coloured stocks.
1. Clean down the outside of the mixer from top to bottom, including whatever equipment you have under the mixer until you have removed all traces of carbon black.
2. Clean ram and loading door until you have removed all traces of carbon black.
3. Load mixer with natural rubber bales (fill factor ~0.65) and mix until temperature reaches about 160°C.
4. Dump, cool and use later for black mixes.
5. Reload mixer with more NR bales and mix per 3) above. You might need to repeat this stage 5 or 6 times.
6. Mix first batch of coloured mix. Check colour against standard. If incorrect, retain and use in a black mix.
7. Repeat step 6 until colour match is correct.
