Hello all,

I am sizing an orifice plate for a fiscal meter. I have a question regarding the maximum pressure drop I can go to. The high DP transmitter reads in the range 0-500 "H2O. at maximum possible flow rate throught the meter, the pressure drop can reach 415 " H2O. is this an acceptable reading?
can it lead to plate deflection? this sizing is for a meter that already exists and I am trying to see if we need to change the size or not. the pipe inside diameter = 10.02", plate diameter = 6"plate thickness = 0.25" 304 SS, in the data sheet, it is written on theexisting meter that the material is A216, what is this material.
Can some one help me knowing if the pressure drop is too high? also, can I go to beta ratio above the current 0.6?

you need to consider other metering elements
flow nozzle, venturi, insertion methods etc.

you'll have to engineer the details

So many question? And most are so easily answered with a little effort. A216? Have you ever heard of google? Did you use Search on this site? It's a wonderful tool that allows you to find answers to questions that have already been asked. Don't be so lazy. We will answer good questions, but we will not do your job.

I cannot consider othe metering elements because this meter has been already exsisting since 1985. All what I can do is replacing the plates with new ones. I am not sure if it is better to enlarge the size above the current 6", and that is why I am asking about the deflection.

for the material A216, I did search and found that it is carbon steel material. In the data sheet of the orifice plate it is saying that they are 304 SS type. I am confused and do not know how it is both at the same time? in the specification of this orifice plate I found both materials written in different places?
 
Typically, material selection for standard application orifice plates are either 304 or 316 stainless steel. The instrument vendors will usually have these on the shelf. Some may be pre-bored to standard diameter orifice sizes, and some may be blanks for custom boring to your specifications.

Did you use Search (between Forum and FAQs at the top, left of page) to look for orifice plate deflection?
