Members,

I am trying to find out useful information as to how does heat transfer fluid such as Propylene Glycol (50:50) mix reacts in vacuum or microgravity condition.

What I am basically interested is that does water seperate from this mix due to difference in thier specific gravities when heated in vacuum? and if they do seperate how much of this seperation occurs? I am interested in calculations if i add 50 Litres of propylene glycol mix in a tank with vacuum and heat it how can i determine whether water seperates completely from water if seperation does occur. so would I be correct to assume that 25 litres of glycol would be at bottom of tank with other 25 litres of water is converted to steam. Please share your thoughts on this.

NO, you cannot get 100% pure gylcol and 100% pure water stream doing this.

You could set up a multi tray column and use reflux to distill the water out. This is done reguarly in the industry.
