Hello all,
I've got an application where a connection needs to be made to a component that is at 700°F. I'm looking for a barrier material that with a low conductivity that is also able to withstand the bearing loads applied. Basically a bracket made from 17-4PH stainless will be bolted to the hot component, and I would like a "gasket" of thermal barrier between the two (does not need to seal, just low conductivity). Thickness is limited to .50 inch. Expected distributed pressure due to the bearing load is 200 psi, but since it's a bolted connection it may be higher near the bolts. This is the first time i've ever had to deal with a thermal barrier and was hoping for some material/product suggestions. I've done a search, but the topics I did find suggested materials that were not appropriate for 700°F.

Woven fiber glass will not be able to stand that temp at that pressure. (as I know).

I suppose you need to connect a flanged piping to a flanged vessel connection at 700°F.

Can you do a detail of it?
Why do you need a 17-4 ph?

Luis

How about Zirconia - need slip forming to the required thickness- handle that compressive stress no problem.

Thanks for the responses.
lganga: the bracket actually attaches a damper to the vessel. 17-4 was chosen for the needed strength at the pin connection.

I'm going to look for some more information on Zirconia. I'm hoping to find a material that could be milled to the fit the bracket w/bolt holes pattern.
