How can I learn to better specify heat exchangers?
I need to know how to show heat change for exchangers of all types. All I have is a regular heat transfer book that doesn't go into much detail. Any help would be nice.

A good start would be to read carefully the TEMA book, the Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers Code. You will see imediately the use of those boring details you read in that regular heat transfer book. You will also realise that the principles in that regular book apply to all the heat transfer equipment, one lending itself a bit more than other for a particular process. Then you'll read carefully the details of each type of exchanger known on the Earth to enable you an engineered selection of the most suitable type, size, materials of construction, etc for your application.
Perhaps you would consider an Engineering course at the nearest University.
Best of luck
