Looking for a standard or publication stating maximum inlet velocity recommendations/restrictions for heat exchangers or different varieties. I am designing a cooling water system where one of the consumers specifies 185 GPM and DN 50 connections to the heat exchanger. Inlet velocity is in excess of 18 fps which appears high. Want to review velocity standards for heat exchangers to see if this is appropriate. Your comments are welcome. Thanks.

The higher the velocity, the longer the shell. I'd think that it is not a problem for the inlet, but you would surely want to slow that down once inside.

you must get smarter than the software you're using.
