Dear friends...
we received a tubular heat exchanger to be instaled as a heater of fuel gas, designed in accordance with ASME VIII DIV / TEMA "R". The heater needs to be modified because one nozzel is interfering with a main process line. My questions are: Is it necessary to restamp the heater (R stamp)after the modificaction? If yes, The recertification must be done by the original vendor, is it mandatory?
thanks in advance...

Reply; Under the rules of the NBIC as an alteration or repair, yes.

If yes, The recertification must be done by the original vendor, is it mandatory?

Reply; No. An R-Certificate holder that has Alteration and Repair scopes and is willing to accept design responsibility can perform this activity with approval of their Inspector and acceptance of the local regulatory body or Jurisdiction.

The "R" in TEMA R having nothing at all to do of course with the "R" in "R" (for repair) Stamp.

Just to be clear to all. The way the OP was written, I felt compelled to bring this out.
