HDD/CD/1.44 Adapter?

Is there an adapter/cable available that I can use
to test a drive outside of my computer; possibly
through a USB port? Or is the only alternative to
pull the cover and plug into the ribbon cable??

Which one? HDD and FDD are different cable interfaces.

There are portable HDD drive interfaces that run into USB.

Likewise FDD.
