Hi All,

Can anyone recommend some good references for the subject line topic? I'm mostly thinking about motor selection, but any references are appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

N.F.P.A. publications (also know as The National electric code) covers the USA temperature and classifications. I suggest checking out your local technical book store.

Other nations use different descriptions, but most I.E.C. nations see to have leaned towards a couple of different ones. If the question is one of construction styles, I suggest talking to Underwriters Laboratory.

Jerry,

I have the NEC, I just wondered if there were any specific references I could consult.

The National Fire Protection Association in Boston publishes additional information on Hazardous Rated Atmospheres and their classifications.

You can consult NEMA MG1, which has some information on construction techniques, but in USA Underwriters Laboratories is the ultimate on the Hazardous locations as far as temperature limits and ignition temperatures. These are the same thermal limits as shown the the NFPA (NEC) documents

I don't know how detailed you need to get, but there is a good "primer" about hazardous location definitions, and this manufacturer also has equipment for the different locations. Look at
Hope that helps.
