Hawker Siddeley VS1 - Capacitor switching

I currently have a spare Hawker Siddley VS1 VCB on my site and would like to switch a 11kV 8000kVAr capacitor bank. Does anyone have any experience with these breakers and whether they are rated for capacitor switching?

If possible does someone have a brochure and manual for the breakers.

My breaker ratings are as follows:

The best thing to do is to contact Hawker Siddeley Switchgear on +44 (0)1495 223001
and ask to speak to the Technical Department. They should be able to tell you straight away whether that breaker has been type tested for capacitor switching. They were tested to an old British Standard from 1952 and I'm not sure whether capacitor switching was part of the testing. Even if the C/B is not suitable as it is you could probably obtain a replacement truck with vacuum interrupters which would be suitable. Most modern switchgear has an assigned single capacitor bank switching rating, but not many have an assigned back to back capacitor bank rating. One to bear in mind if you already have another capacitor on the system, or plan to insall another one in the future.

Thank you Marmite for the answer. I have tried to call HS on numerous occasions and have trouble getting through to the correct person in technical.

The breakers are Vacuum and are fairly new (installed 2003).

The files you attached dont appear to open correctly. Can you please put them up again.

I've just clicked all the links again myself and they all opened up OK. Try saving them first. They are about 3MB. The manuals relate to the oil version. I missed the reference to VCB in your first post. Unfortunately I don't have a manual for the vacuum version.
Don't bother trying HSS now. They don't seem to work Friday afternoons.
