What is the chemical compositon of 'Hard Brass'.
What are its uses?
Are there different grades of Hard Brass and what are their applications?

Thanks!

I think you mean hard drawn brass which can be any copper zinc alloy cold worked by drawing, rolling or other room temperature shape altering process.

The single phase brasses (0 to 37% zinc) are commonly sold either as soft , 1/4hard, 1/2 hard, 3/4 hard, hard and spring hard depending on the degree of cold reduction applied.

In Indian context the 60/40 grade is normally referred to as hard brass.

Thanks guys for your replies. I export brass scrap from the US to India.

I think the Hard Brass is about 90% Cu. It has some lead in it so that it can be machined. I just want to know the exact composition and common US alloy numbers of hard brass. Also, what are the uses of Hard Brass (what machine parts are made from it).

Arun, it will be nice to know what Hard Brass is commonly called in India.

Thanks.
