Hello all,

I'm working on a project where we are hanging loads from existing open web steel joists. We plan on using Unistrut clamps on the bottom flanges of the steel joists to hold Unistrut channels from which the threaded rod hangers will hang down from. The Unistrut channels will run perpendicular to the direction of the joists. However, after receiving existing drawings, the existing joists are sloped for roof drainage meaning that the channels will be slightly askew, potentially driving bending into the hangers which are only designed for tension.

Has anyone dealt with something along these lines? Is there a way for the connection from the threaded rod to channel to be free to rotate to prevent any bending in the threaded tension rod? Or would a minor drainage slope be nearly negligible?

Thank you in advance for your help!

use a tapered washer between the nut on the threaded rod and the channel.

Unistrut has some swivel fittings you could use.
