Design
In order to give greater stature in the centre, the ordinary tie beam is cut through and the portions remaining, known as hammerbeams, are supported by curved braces from the wall. Hammerbeam roofs can exert considerable thrust on the walls that support them.[1]

I've already modelled it in Risa. The forces/stresses aren't as large as I thought they might be. The Vermnot timber link has a bit of an outline (page 1 of 4) for a typical connection design. Are you aware of a text that goes into some detail about timberframe connections? I have several books on them, but there is no detailed engineering information.

I have a Handbook for Engineers on the maximum design values for typical Timberpeg frame members. If you call them, you should be able to get one too, assuming they are still in business. It also has exploded sketches of the various connections. Dated April 26, 1999.
