Hi,I am a junior engineer tasked with designing a simple system.

The system consists of 6 H2 gas cylinders, stationed in 3 gas cabinets. 3 gas cylinders will be in use and the other 3 gas cylinders will be on standby. H2 gas is piped for use for the GCs in our QC Lab.

The gas cylinders will pass through a semi-automatic changeover panel, which automatically switches the system to the standby gas cylinders when the pressure in the gas cylinders is below 15 bar (i.e H2 gas cylinder is almost empty).

There will be H2 gas detectors installed as well, which will be connected to a pneumatic solenoid valve to shut off the supply to the QC Lab GC in the event of a H2 gas leak.

Attached is my preliminary system design.

Is the system design adequate?

1) Is there a need to install a flash-back arrestor in the system?
2) Is a safety relief valve necessary before venting off?

Thanks and regards,
XS

IMO,
1. needed if the gas used for welding, cutting, or heating
2. needed if a concern of the system possibly overpressurized

Suggest to have an AGA associated Expert to review the overall Lab application.
