Guided vs. non-guided pot beraing

Is there any guide or specifications, which defines when to use guided and when to use non-guided pot bearing?

The engineer usually determines the articulation required for a particular structure depending on how he wishes (or the structure dictates) to accomodate lateral expansion/movement usually thermal.

I am not aware of dedicated guidance on the use of bearings but there could CIRIA (UK) literature to give guidance on bearing selction,
