On the SW site under the graphic card page, when seeing what cards are approved by SW, for each card listed there is a "NOTE" section on the far left. One of the notes has a SW logo with the description "Use the graphics card display settings for Solidworks". Can anyone explain what this means.

I'm looking at the Nvidia FX 1700 card and although that note applies to that card for versions 2007 and 2008 it is missing for use with SW2009.

Thanks

John

Use the graphics card display settings for SolidWorks
Most nVidia cards/drivers have specific settings for various applications which can be chosen from a drop down list.

The fx1700 is certified for SW09 but by not showing that icon against it means that the fx1700 does not have (or need) specific application settings for SW09. I don't know why though.

Thanks CBL... I currently have an FX1400 and I'm familiar with the "drop down menu" in the Nvidia settings panel where the card can be "optimized" for use with a particular CAD program. I'm assuming the card (the 1700 for 2009) will play well with SW but that perhaps that setting it to be optimized for SW2009 is not an option...or perhaps it is not necessary.

A quick check against other nvidia cards shows that none of them show the application setting icon for SW09.

hmmm... not sure where you were looking but the only cards, I see, that don't show the icon for solidworks 2009 setting are the 1700, the 370 and the 570. Seems like all other cards do show that setting.

I just recently upgraded from 2.008K to 2.009K. I looked to see if there was a different recommendation for the my Nvidia 1700 graphics driver than what I was using for 2008, and sure enough, there was. I guess one could feel safe in following the SW offically sanctioned driver recommendation...

Unfortunately it did nothing but freeze my graphics, especially in the assy I have been working on. When I rolled back to the earlier version, SW WORKED FINE.

BTW, does SW have recommendation about the amount of video ram?

Also depends on which way you get to your driver. If you have a Dell (like I do) you need to select the driver via the Dell pull down, not nVidia. None of the Dell/nVidia drivers for 09 have the logo and my control panel does not have the option.

Even if the card does not have the 'Application setting' logo, the setting may still be accessible. Note the setting in the linked image. The card is an FX570 for Vista x64 and SW2009 x64, and did not have the logo.

Take particular note that the Show only programs found on this computer is NOT selected.

Also note the Base Profile should be used.

I was pretty geeked when I saw this in another thread thinking it might sort out the graphics issues I'm having but the "Show only..." option isn't in my menu. Apparently the option isn't in all the driver menus as it isn't in the rep at my VAR either and I believe he said he's using an fx1700.

Yes, the tab is there. It's the check box option that is missing. I've messed with the settings (as suggested by some at the SW forum) and verified that they matched the settings at my VAR. Un-installed, re-installed, cleaned every thing out that said "nVidia", etc and the issue stays. Fortunately the tech has recreated the problem and has forwarded the issue to corporate.
