hello,
can anyone pls help answer the questionbelow, i came across it while preparing for an exam. thanks

Although the allowable welding stress depends upon the grade of steel of the connected parts,
The allowable weld stress for structurally welded grade 43 steel is generally taken as
a. 100 N/mm2
b. 115 N/mm2
c. 155 N/mm2
d. 165 N/mm2

shinor;
The Grade 43 pertains to an S275 structural steel (based on my review of steel compositions in Stahlschlussel, 2007). There is not enough information to answer this question as stated above. There must be some additional background information pertaining to an applicable code (structural).

I would guess that the weld metal strength will be used for some calculation. Normally, the weld metal strength is selected to match the Grade 43 yield strength. The allowable welding stress (or in my case allowable stress for the weld metal) used for some calculation is the weld metal strength x knock down factor to arrive at one of the 4 choices.
