Dear all

My company will revamp its 1,3-butadiene plant and we will be responsible for the basic engineering.

Unfortunatelly, Zeon and some other experienced companies with extractive distillation declined the job due to other bigger projects ongoing.

My team intent is to simulate the plant and develop the basic engineering ourselves and give the detail engineering to others.

Does anyone have experience with the GPB process simulation?? What thermodynamic model(s) should be used to overcome extractive distillation problems? Any good papers or documentation regarding extractive distilattion simulation, focused on butadiene extraction?

Experience with Aspen or Hysys on the GPB process?

Thanks in advance

There is a fairly large price tag on the software packages - and this is assuming that you already know how to use them. I would most defenitely howeevr recommend that you use one of the well known brand (i have never heard about GPB but dont put too much value in this) due to QA reasons.

If you dont know how to work a process simulator (and this is a one time occurance) then i will recommend that you hire a consultant or outsource the job.

Best regards
Morten

GPB is not the simulation software, GPB is the brand name for the Zeon butadiene extraction process.

Simulation package we want to use is Aspen Hysys.
