Hello all,

I have been working on a bumper design in abaqus and getting stress and strain values as output.
But i want the maximum deflection value in mm in the bumper during the crash.
How can i generate that?

Also the maximum force being exerted on the bumper?

Please help!

Hello,

i want the maximum deflection value
I never use that option but I think it can be answer for your question.

Please take a look here:
Abaqus Analysis User's Manual, 4.1.3 Output to the output database, Requesting maximum, minimum, or absolute maximum values for an output request

Bartosz

If by deflection you just mean movement, request U (is done by default normally).
Force is either Reaction Force (RF) or Contact Force (CFORCE), depending on your modeling strategy.
You can see the max in contour options -> limits. But for force, a summation of all (or a certain region of) force vectors sounds better to me (operate on XY data)

Thanks

so that means if i want deflection in the Y direction, i should choose U2 from field output ?? right??

Did you not check the displacements before looking at stresses/strains?

I am pretty new to ABAQUS and learning from scratch. I am currently trying to model a weld simulation to determine the temperature and stress distribution after cooling. I tried using the heat transfer step to determine the temperature distribution afterwards, but there was no temperature recorded. Could somebody give me a hint on the best way to model the weld and perform the simulation? Thanks.
