Get Write Access

In Solidworks, when working with a read-Only file, there is a command called "Get write access" which allows you to make the file read-write without closing and reopening.

Is there a function in SE V19 that does the same?

why is this file write protected?? There should be a reason for it...

You can change the part when opened read-only. To save use save as...

Schipperus is correct - if the file is read only there is a reason. Either someone is working on it or it is set as read only in Windows.
Has the Solid Edge file status property been changed to anything other than "Available" by another user. If so it will appear as read-only to you.

The problem is that there are a number of Engineers working on various models. When I have got an assembly open and i want to edit a part in there, but someone else has that part open, I get the read-only message.

What I would like to do it change the read-only status to read-write, after the other engineer is no longer working on the part, without having to re-open the part.

It is something that is very useful feature of SW.

Paul,
When the other engineer closes the part you should be able to get write access. I don't tink it's really anything to do with Solid Edge, it's just basic Windows security.
You would get the same message if you both tried to open a Word or Excel document at the same time.
