Geostatic Step
The goal of this step is to make sure that the system under analysis is under equlibrium state prior to analyzing it under any external effect.Prior to external effect, ususlly a system is subject to its gravity load and one in this step has to describe intial stress condition that (at least) roughly equliberates the stress state produced by the gravity load. I am finding difficulty in establishing equilibrium

Any recommendations on properly assigning this initial state and any neccessary boundary conditions that could be imposed to help establishing equilibrium will be appreciated

Hi
You have to create the geostatic step first then go to load module to creater temperature, type any number that you can see easily becuase later you will have to go to the keyword and click the whole model and make sure it is in initial step. This is a way to trick the program for element set. After you crete temperature field then you have to go to the keyword option and scroll down where you see
initial conditions, type=temperature
pickset11~~~~~

then you have to click after to define your initial state of stress as following

initial conditions, type=stress, geostatic
pickset11, -30, 0, -30, 1, 1

pickset under geostatic has to be the same as the pickset under temperature

that's how you create equilibrium state of stress.
