Geogrid Embankment with CLAY

Roadway embankment widening/grade raise. Sideslope is 45-degrees. Engineer requires clay fill using geogrid reinforcement. Normally this is done with cohesionless material.
Does anyone have any experience or comments regarding the use of clay in such an application? What about concerns with internal drainage??
