I'm having a hard time grasping the tap settings on these relays. Is there a simple explanation for setting them up properly. I'm not looking at making any changes, just wanting to understand how to select the proper taps.
If you define your question better or post an example of what you do not understand, someone will be glad to assit. Post the relay model, and tap values and relay spec/data.
Also search GE website and find its manual and post a link here too for discussion. Manual would have the explanation of what the tap designations means.
No, not really. The tap setting is setting based on the mutually conflicting goals of protection and coordination, taking into account applicable codes, standards, nature of load supplied, and impact of loss of power.
I have the manual, but the section on burdens for the tripping coil really threw me off. After looking more closely at the manual, I came across the details for calculating the tap setting using the ratio of the ct. That was what I was looking for, I just looked a little too hard. I should have studied a little more before posting such a broad question. I have a copy of the art and science of protective relaying I will read.
