Dear All,
I am starting to study the gate valves: I totally dont understand at all the following sentence:
the wedge
is carried on valve opening initially on the seat until the fluid load has
become small enough for the body ribs to carry the wedge. This method
of guiding the wedge may require considerable play in the guides, which
must be matched, by the play in the T-slot for suspending the wedge on the
stem

valve opening, there is considerable
friction between the contact faces of the T-slot and stem collar, possibly
causing the wedge to tilt on the stem as the valve opens

What is body rib?
Why we have initially the friction on the T connection as we dont have sliding motion ?
Why friction causes the wedge to tilt??

I am totally confused.
regards,

Do you have or can you find a drawing of what this description is based on?

There are many different types of gate valves and wedges so you need to know which one it is.
