Future in the construction for a student

Do you believe that focusing your future career on the development and research of sustainable infrastructure construction is the most appropriate choice for the upcoming years?

It may be a different story in more populated areas where sustainability is more virtuous, but in my area that idea sounds very niche. If you wanted to go that way, you could do materials eng or a more modest route would be mechanical, then try to work yourself towards that in the future as you develop your career. Its possible to get into niche markets, but I wouldn't bet my future on being able to find one of those jobs immediately post graduation.
