The many types of welding non destructive examination (Visual, PT, UT, Mag Partial, RT) are complimentary, each has it's range of flaws they find best.
It would be interesting to know what the NDE acceptance criteria of construction specification are.
If the current NDE method or acceptance criteria are different than that of construction, flaws not found previously will present, interpreting the importance of these findings importance gets messy.
 
Since the issue is likely fatigue related, then the best testing for this type of potential failure should be utilised. There should also be a schedule for future examinations established.

Carowinds amusement park staff closed Fury 325 on June 30 after a visitor reported the crack.
