Dear All,
we are using Furfural as solvent in an extraction plant. We have been facing problems with degradation of furfural, which caused coking in our system. Furfural is heated up to 220 Deg C in a hot oil (275 Deg C) heat exchanger. Does anyone has experiences with degradation of furfural due to overheating (low flow in HX), existance of oxygen in process fluid, acidity of process fluid, water content? What is the max allowable film tempertaure of furfural which when exceeding will accelerate the degradation. What other reason can cause the degradation. Are there any inhibitors that can prevent or reduce degradation.

Thanks for any input and
Happy New Year to all of you.
