Well I finally got my EIT number, 6 months after I received the letter saying I passed
Currently I work doing HVAC work under a PE. It is interesting, but not 100% sure what my niche will be. Unfortunately I am really good in CAD and I get mostly CAD work right now
What I am wondering is, in four years I can sit for my PE exam, what do I need to keep track of to prove I have met the requirements to sit the test

Detailed work history and possibly professional references from one or more PE's. Your State PE Board will let you know if you have not met the work experience qualification.

Check with your state board, some do not count drafting toward experience for PE. I'm not saying all CAD work is 'drafting' per se but be careful.

KENAT,

Have you reminded yourself of faq731-376 recently, or taken a look at posting policies: What is Engineering anyway: faq1088-1484

I agree with KENAT...be careful how you describe your experience. As rbulsara said, designer would be better than drafter. Your experience is supposed to be relevant engineering work, but that is rather loosely defined. Generally as long as you are doing engineering work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer, most boards will count it.

Does your firm have drafters? When you say you get CAD work, does that mean you dont size equipment, size duct etc.

I do size some equipment. Mostly duct or register sizing. I also do some layout design and load calculations
From what I was told, they really like my CAD skills and I seem to be getting more of that type of work. Hopefully it is till I learn more.
