I am designing a structure in a French-speaking country and have been told to use the values from the French Seismic Code (PS 92: Regles de Construction Parasismique), wherein I am to use the nominal acceleration of 3.0 m/s2 for the French Zone 2 (or II). This would convert to 0.306 times g (gravitational constant). I will be trying to design the structure using IBC 2006 and ASCE 7-05. Both of these use Ss and S1, which are the acceleration values for 0.2 seconds and 1.0 seconds. I have not been able to determine what the nominal acceleration from France corresponds to as far as 0.2 to 1.0 seconds. I just need to know what the French nominal acceleration means. It is just one value.
