Has anyone used this link before, got it in an email. I am surprised that ICC would give you access to the code without any payment. I wonder if there is a catch!

It doesn't look like the whole code is displayed...only the front paragraphs.

No it is the full code, and it is legitimate, just has limited searching and no printing capabilities. States are required to make public law freely available anyway, including what essentially amounts to reproductions of the IBC, so this is just the ICC's way of complying with that.

You can get full PDF versions of many state codes (including the structural portions, which again are simply reprints of the IBC), here:

I use these websites to view the
California code at

and
City of Phoenix AZ building code at

These do have the state/city changes from the IBC in them and marked. But as noted above the government, by law, are required to give free access to the codes and with the internet more and more are doing it on-line.

The ICC has some "Free Codes" online at

http://www.iccsafe.org/Store/Pages/FreeCodes.aspx.

However, the ones I have looked at are in an HTML format that is not the best. But, if you want to quickly look up a section while away from the office, it works OK.
