Four killed after scaffolding collapses in Toronto

Four construction workers plunged to their deaths after scaffolding collapsed at an apartment building in Toronto Thursday afternoon.

“I can confirm that four were pronounced [dead] on scene,” said Rod Hicks, a duty officer with Toronto Medical Services.

A fifth worker was found alive and was rushed to a nearby trauma centre with life-threatening injuries.

I hope the EOR did not have the scaffolding design and erection in the plans or have any control of the erection, support, loading and use. The GC should shoulder the bulk of any liability in the real world.

That's difficult by now in Spain, that asks from the project author to state in the same both clauses, define the kind of shoring, and even calculations ... more likely this will be resulting in some quite overconservative specifications for shoring to be relieved only when the general contractor asks with own proof and, again, the project director approves.

All this comes to the birth of the architectural profession. In the middle ages there were scarcely such things ... they were mostly the illustrated masons, and, mostly, the general contractors themselves. Heavy duty but also good gains. Princes resented the company of such villain rich gents and saw proper by the quattrocento to have cavalier designers with less deep pockets. Builders themselves saw the opportunity of discharging in the naive cavaliers some of their responsabilities, and this continues till now.
