Most designs that I do now have got walls built on the boundary with existing footings in line with boundary.
They require the new foundation to be built immediately adjacent to the existing footing and wall.
I'm wondering if there is any good foundation book that has a topic or chapter on this.

Thanks sliderule !
Only problem with that is that I was refering to 2 separate owners of land.
So that a building with its foundations is already on the title boundary and Im looking for any literature of new footings being built next to the existing footings.

If the outside face of the exterior bearing wall is on the property line, then you have to design an "L" shaped strip footing, preferably integrated with a slab-on-grade or structural slab. I assume this is what the OP is referring to...

civeng80,
Perhaps you misunderstood SRE's suggestion. By "combined footing", he did not mean the two footings at the boundary are combined. Combined footings resist the overturning of an eccentrically loaded footing by bending in a perpendicular footing.

Amazing how the mind works. The project Im working on at the moment actually has a one pad footing across the boundary used as 2 footings and I was just fixed on that.
Combined footings with slab or strap beams is obviously one solution.
Thanks.

Hokie congratulations on being elected winner last week for most helpful comments.

Thanks. Must have been a quiet week.

Hokie sat at JAE's water cooler and drained it... That's why it seemed like such a quiet week to him.
