When wind and live loads act simultaneously, each one can be reduced 25% when used in conjunction with dead loads, i.e., D + 0.75L + 0.75W.
The code also says that you cannot use 25% reduction in conjunction with a one-third stress increase.
However, does it allow me to use D+L+W along with a one-third stress increase?
In reading through Footnote (d) of Table 1804.2 in the Florida Building Code, it states that allowable bearing pressure can be increased by one-third only when using alternate load combinations listed in 1605.3.2.
The alternate load combinations are D + L + [ω]W or D + L + [ω]W/2. If wind loads are calculated per ASCE 7, then [ω] is 1.3.
It appears that there will be no effect of the one-third increase using the alternate load combos as I am increasing wind loads by 1.3 as well.
