Just wondering if anyone had a formula available to convert Engineering feet into regualr fractioned inch feet? i am a surveyor working with millwrights and all we use is decimal feet (100ths of a foot) and all they use is inches. Its proving to be a total nightmare and any help that is available is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

It will be easier if you switch to metric ;)

I disagree sdz. If he switches to metric, then the millwrights may have no idea how to measure it, since the millwrights I've worked with don't have metric measuring tools. At least with decimal feet, if there is a dimension of 156.313 feet, the millwright will be able to figure it should be at about 156'-4" pretty easy. If he had a dimension of 47.6442 meters, chances are the millwright would have to stop and think before he could even determine if he could throw a stone that far.

Not that millwrights couldn't have an intuitive sense about metric, but I certainly don't think in metric and if I were handed a drawing in metric I'd have to convert to english before I could decide if I was looking at a skyscraper in a city or a model building for a child's toy train setup.
