Hello! I am new to the forum, apologies if I'm posting in the wrong section. However, I am trying to working out the forces of this can press. I attach a picture of the 3d isometric view of the can press and the side view. The parts in red are the ones I am focusing on. Basically a force of 850N is being applied on the top plate (we can assume it is applied at the centre of it), I need to work out all the forces to see what force is being applied at the handle. I tried to work out each part separately. We are in static conditions. I attach the calculations I have done for each part, however I am pretty sure that I am making some mistake. Especially because by starting with the plate I see that the sum of moments in not zero at any point (against my assumptions that we are in static condition). I hope someone can help me out and guide through where I am making mistakes.

Thanks!

Looks like homework from Mechanics of Machinery class. Simple 4-bar slider-crank...

What doesn't appear in your calculations is the height of the can, since the maximum force must be applied to the uncrushed can, at its strongest.

While there is a peak at the buckling point of a can, the final compression load on the can will be significantly higher. You can see this in the design of any can crusher, in that the leverage is greatest at the final compression.
