Hello, I have worked as a test engineer for a few years now. Lately, my company has been shifting focus from testing single components and small systems to full vehicle testing. It has been a very interesting experience, however I am still new to many of the concepts. We had a test recently using wheel force transducers where we collected load and moment data. I would like to learn more about the physical meaning of this data, and how it applies to vehicle performance.

Some things I would like to learn about are:
The effects of lift, drag and side forces on vehicle performance
The effects of roll, pitch and yaw moments on vehicle performance
Effects of tire loads and vertical loading on vehicle performance

Does anyone know of anything out there (book or other literature) that can help me gain a better understanding on these concepts? Perhaps how vehicle makers use these metrics in their design?

Thank you!

You are standing at the edge of a deep, dark chasm of research.

Vehicle Dynamics by Jazar is the textbook I used for my first class in college- I'd say it's a good start. Others on this board will know more.

Vehicle performance is a vague and broad identifier. I would look how each of these affect speed and acceleration or say braking distance. You could also measure engine and transmission life.
