What is the proper way to design for one way shear in an abutment or retaining wall footing? We have found that the footing thickness required to meet the latest AASHTO LRFD specifications require a considerably more thick footing than what was required with the latest AASHTO standard specifications.

The structural engineering forum is probably the more appropriate one for this question.
