Hi all
Actually I use Femap 9.3 and NX Nastran 5 to model composite parts by means of the laminate property.
I just begin working on old models of my previous collegue and I notice that he defined the foam like a 2D ortotropic material. The parts are manufactured using carbon fibre.
This definition got me confused so I carried out some tests with simple model.
I notice that if I define a steel core 2D and steel core isotropic I didn't find any difference in the output results between the two models, instead with the foam I could get differences in the results i.e. a displacement higher that 50% for the model with the 2D foam.
Another query about the foam how can I include the foam compressive property in the 2D material? maybe using G1z and G2z ( calculated with G=E/2(1+v)).
How can I model the honeycomb ? usually I use the foam but I would like to set up my 2D property including the L Shear and the T shear, I have been figuring to use the T shear for the G (or an average between G T and G L)and regarding the stabilised compression modulus to use the same methology described above for the foam.
