Hi everybody, I have to glue a fluoro silicon sheet on a painted aluminium support. Do someone know which kind of product will permit it? or which manufacturer can satisfy me in such application?
The elastomer is an aeronautical reference 61D8.
Thanks
I have a little bit of experience with this. I'm away from the office (be back tomorrow). My advice is to use a silicon based adhesive. This will definetly adhear to the sheet. The difficulty may then be the adhering to the painted surface. When I return I'll look up the specific adhesive part numbers.
You may want to post this on a material forum as well.
Thank you Kwan for your answer.
I've got in touch with Eleco Produits (adhesive manufacturer) who have recommended me also a silicon adhesive. I will mention to not paint the glued areas.
I got back to the office and looked up the adhesive I've used in the past. It's dow corning 3145, another part number for this is M46146-31XGN. This will bond silicone to metal. Ensure your aluminum is not painted but does have a conversion coating (alodine or anodize).
which brand is it M46146-31XGN and 3145? I have already chosen the glue (RTV 157 from Eleco Produits)
The aluminium will have an alodine. There will be paint resists where the elastomer should be bonded.
I don't know if it is applicable to you, but there are several RTV products (including 157), that contain acetic acid, which can be very corrosive.
For more info see AC 45-206 part1 - pages 15,85 and table 5-2
Sorry about that! It should be AC 43-206: Inspection, Prevention, Control and Repair of Corrosion on Avionics Equipment. It is on the FAA site, and is a large AC with part 1 and 2.
