Fluid properties required

I am writing a freeware program to calculate the pressure drop of liquid through standard sizes of pipes (up to 300mm). To make the program accurate, I intend to allow the user to adjust the liquid temperature and the % mixture of glycol with water.

What I need is tabulated data which gives the density and dynamic viscosity of various mixtures (10%, 20%, 30%.....) of water and ethylene glycol and also propylene glycol. To make matters even more complex, I need this data over a range of temperatures (say -30 to +85 deg.C).

I've done internet searches, but can't find the info I need.

Go to DOW's site. I'm sure they have the data available on the site, if not, you can drop them a line. I've contacted them once before and they were very helpful.

ASHRAE has graphs of the properties. You could make your own tables.

I admire what you're doing. It surely helps an engineer to write such a practical program; it reinforces and establishes his skills at problem solving and allows others to profit from his work. I have obtained the information you are seeking from Lyondell, who manufacture and market the two glycols specifically for anti-freeze protection. Go to the following website:

I have obtained more detailed information from Lyondell by contacting them directly in the past. Use the customer service address they furnish and I'm sure they have (& will share) the information you seek and in the detail that you require it in. I wish you good luck in obtaining the basic data and in producing a usable engineering program. Could you, on my request, inform this Forum of your product when you finish it? I'm sure many of our fellow engineers would be interest in the Shareware product. In fact, you may find a lot of good, experienced volunteers for your Beta test here on the Forum. But check with Dave, our Forum Director, first to get his permission to do so.
