I need a formula or method to calculate what length of 9" pipe I need to regulate flow from a detention chamber, with a max head of 5.36 feet, to a maximum discharge of 88 litres per second?

You should go to your pipeline design book and find it. It is a fairly simple problem. You will have to know the slope of the 9" pipe butthat's about all. May be helpful to convert all the numbers to one system. Max discharge will be with max head. However, a 9" pipe only has .45 square foot of area and you want to push about 3cfs through it. the velocity will be in the range of 7 fps.

Typically (at least in this part of the planet), detention pond release is regulated by an orifice plate or a weir. Could you explain your situation a little more as to why you would need to regulate the flow with a pipe?

Hi, thanks for you interest.

We are discharging into the system of a private buisness park, which will allow 88 Litres per second to enter. They want us to use a restriction pipe to regulate the flow.
I have, since posting the query, solved the problem using the Colebrook White equation. I you have a more appropriate method I would appreciate your help.
