Hi Everyone,

Can someone please share with me any document that has detailed step-wise procedure to calculate Flow rate through Control Valve having Equal Percentage Trim Characteristic? I have a pipeline in which I need to know flow rate, but, the line is not having any flow meter. But, there's a control valve in it, and I have datasheet of the Control Valve. So, I want to know the flow through the valve with percent of valve opening. Can someone please help me out? In case if you are giving some info, please do mention the standard as per which the data is presented, for authenticity. Thanks in advance.

Google search "Metso flow control manual". You should be able to download for free. It contains fluid flow equations for gas and liquids, as well as many of the properties of the fluids.

Then get the Cv versus position data for the control valve you have.

Calculate the flow rate from the equation in the manual.

And then consider how you will know how accurate the result is. Or do you really care?

What other data do you have? The equation bcd is referencing also requires a dP measurement, which you did not say you have. You will not be able to calculate flow rate unless you also have measurements of pressure drop across the valve or a pressure loss model for the piping system. If you only have valve % open, then you are out of luck until you can collect more data.
